What makes Astraea special and even more necessary in this day and age is their work for racial, social, economic, and gender justice and their political commitment to end all forms of discrimination and exploitation. I am a lifelong supporter and donor to Astraea because this organization understands the intersections of oppressions and strategically funds and supports organizations nationally and internationally who are making our world a better and safer place for queer people, lesbians, transgender, genderqueer identified people, gender variant people, bisexual people, two-spirited, and gay men of all racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
